Well MGS4 sold a good 4mil+ spread across the world in 6months.
Gears of War 2 is at 3mil+ spread across the world in 1month.
Not that sales matter in a nomination....but the hype, anticipation, and the Gears of War fan base that has grown larger then most of the nominees in a much shorter time.

The game is 1024x768 native and that IS NOT a "high defintion" resolution.
It can be upscaled to 1080p
1024x768 is off by 15% pixels to reach 720p 1280x720
Just google it and find out yourself.
As for why does Resolution matter? Put your settings to 480p play games for a day with it set to that resolution and bam theres your answer.
Next Gen for gaming Blu Ray won't be used hopefully.

Blu Ray disc read speed is horrid. With the format in the link above you'd get the same speed as a DVD and better quality then a Blu Ray disc.

People and devs hit it with a twist saying "o yeah this game supports 1080p" when really it's just an upscale.
Halo 3 is native 655p
MGS4 is native 640p
or somewhere in those areas..
1080p native content would probably be huge....an 720p movie download is like 2-4 gigabytes. Just think of an entire game.
There's more formats out there that aren't Blu Ray and for video gaming and HD Video would perform better.

MSFT took 08 because they had more games I play.
I'm an RPG/Shooter/Adventure gamer only games I played in 08 on my Ps3 was MGS4, Haze (don't ask), and R2 and I'll be picking up White Knight Chronicles if it comes out in 2008. I tried MGO for a few days and hated it, and Resistance 2 got drowned out when I got Gears2.. ended up trading R2 for CoD WAW.
on 360 I played, Fable2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2, Lost Odyssey, The Last Remnant,Tales of Vesper...
Game is weird and good..hope they beef up the next one with a twisting story...

Best games I've played this gen haven't been on Blu Ray so I don't know what's the prob.
Your preferences are meaningless and really NO one cares especially consumers who by there games to play them..only the net trolls.
Not everyone has HDTV's so Blu Ray probably doesn't even matter to them.

I'm not an artist or in game developement...don't know where you got the assumption..but it's easy to know that colors can cause framerate issues right?
So while 99% the color palette is decided on the art direction. I'm gonna go out on a whim and guess that 100% of the time developers know there limitations....

It takes time which is why Gears1 and Bioshock are the only games that make the Unreal Engine 3 look worthwhile. Both games were slowly cooked.
